Tracy and I just saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy, Utah.

We’ve seen plenty of shows on Broadway and in big-city theaters. This one held its own with any of them, on a stage surrounded by just 911 seats. Under that stage sits an 80-ton platform powered by 120 motors, part of one of the most technologically advanced theater stages in the world. And it’s a community theater.

There’s a parallel to my business.

In investigations and digital forensics, we compete with firms many times our size. They’re good at what they do, and there’s a reason they’ve earned their reputations. But there’s also something to be said for a boutique firm, where the people doing the work are the same people the client gets to know and trust.

Hale performs in the round. There’s no backstage to hide behind, and the audience is on every side. The cast has to deliver for everyone in the house. Small firms work much the same way. There’s nowhere to hide, and your reputation rides on every performance.

Some of our best clients are at large downtown law firms. They appreciate specialized expertise and personal accountability because those things matter, regardless of how large or small a firm happens to be.

The size of the stage doesn’t determine the quality of the show. The people on stage and behind the scenes do.

Bravo, Hale Centre Theatre!
